Delete your data.
This page is for Dote, the app published by ArcSmiths LLC — the app listed on Google Play and the App Store under that name, and the website at itsdote.com. It says how to delete your account, what is deleted, and what is kept.
In effect August 9, 2026
Do it yourself, in under a minute
You do not need to ask us, and you do not need to explain.
- In the app — open the Account tab, scroll to the bottom, tap Delete account. It tells you what will go, then asks you to type DELETE.
- On the website — sign in at itsdote.com/account and open Delete your account at the bottom of the page.
Either route deletes everything immediately. There is no waiting period and no confirmation email to click.
Or ask a person
Email [email protected] from any address, saying the email address you sign in with and putting “Delete my account” in the subject. No account is needed to send that. We reply within 3 business days and finish within 30 days.
If you bought a card and never made an account
Buying has never required one, so there is nothing to sign into and nothing to delete on the two routes above — but your name and the address we posted the card to are still on an order.
Email [email protected] with “Delete my order details” in the subject, and give us the order number and the email address on the receipt. Those two together are how we find you when there is no account to look you up by. Same timings: we reply within 3 business days and finish within 30 days, and what goes and what stays is the table below.
Your cards stop working. Read this first.
A Dote card is a pointer: the card never changes, and what it opens is stored on our side. So deleting your data deletes the thing your cards point at, and a tap on one of your cards will find nothing.
If you have given cards to other people — wedding guests, family — theirs stop working too. Tell them first, or transfer the card to them before you delete, which moves it to their account and leaves it working.
One exception, and the deletion screen counts it for you: a card bought before you had an account, and never claimed onto it, is not attached to you as far as our records go. Those keep working. Claim them first if you want them gone as well.
What is deleted, and what is kept
| What | What happens |
|---|---|
| Your account and sign-in | Deleted immediately |
| Photographs, video, voice messages, written notes and pages | Deleted immediately. The stored files become unreferenced and are erased from storage by our nightly clean-up, within 30 days. |
| Saved card designs | Deleted immediately |
| Your cards | Stop working immediately. The card record stays attached to its order, pointing at nothing. |
| Your name and shipping address | Deleted from your orders immediately |
| The order record — what was paid, when, and its reference | Kept, with you taken off it. We are required to keep a record of what was paid. Retained for 7 years, which is the tax record-keeping period. |
| Tap counts on your cards | Deleted with the card. They never held anything identifying: a date, a country, and a coarse phone type. |
| Payment details | We never held them. Cards are entered inside Stripe's own form and never reach our servers. Stripe keeps its own record of the payment, which is theirs to keep — ask them at stripe.com/privacy. |
If an order is still on its way
Deletion waits until it arrives. We need the address to post it, and we would rather say “not yet” than half-delete an account. The screen names the order so you know which one. Once it is delivered, delete as normal.
It cannot be undone
There is no restore and no grace period. Save anything you want to keep before you start. The full policy is in our privacy policy.
